Water is Life

El Salvador is currently facing a scarce water crisis where 100% of the countries water is contaminated, including bottled water, with faeces , fluoride, and minerals from mining companies. There are many reasons as to how and why the country no longer carries healthy water flows. A lack of education in environmental cause and effects, excessive exploitation from companies, and the governments lack of promotion of public services and awareness. As there are many contributing factors to the water crisis, there are organizations like AFJA who are looking for ways to implement support for the existing movements targeting this issue.

La Mission Por Vida is a Christ-centred non-profit organization that is committed to providing clean and safe drinkable water to developing countries in hopes of empowering individuals and communities that are at-risk of violence and poverty. La Mission Por Vida (LMPV) has created a filter that is easy to use and lasts up to 10 years. The filter’s pore size is no larger than 0.1 or 0.02 microns in size, which means it is impossible for harmful bacteria such as E.Coli and Salmonella to make its way to children’s and the elderly’s bodies. AFJA is proud and honoured to announce our newly established partnership with LMPV. This partnership will allow the futból participants of AFJA, including the families, educators, and those who contribute to the betterment of their community, to have easy access to a healthy, filtered future. Healthy children, is a promising future, however healthy elders, is a stronger El Salvador.

We must come back to our indigenous roots and knowledges that are constantly erased in our communities, but it is this recognition that will promise our survival as a people and culture. We must unlearn the advantages we take of our water as disposable and constant, because this is not true, especially when as global citizens we are connected through water. The contamination and inaccessibility to a human right, and substance that makes up 60% of our bodies, is reflective of our current political climate and ability to care for each other; we are poisoned and continue to poison. So it is with great urgency that we create a Call to Action to raise $10,000 for the continuing development of these life-changing water filters. Please visit lamissionporvida.org to learn more and donate to clean water.
